He watched the door waiting for it to open. He had been watching it for over an hour. It was obvious he wasn't coming home anytime soon. Why hadn't he just shut up when Blink had asked him to? Because he didn't know when to let up when it came to Blink. He hadn't been looking for a fight when the conversation started. But it had soon escalated and he found himself saying things he didn't mean as usual. He really needed to start putting his foot in his mouth. The phone rang pulling him from his thoughts. He sighed just as the answering machine kicked in.
"Hey this is Race, and this is Blink. We're not here so leave a message."
"Hey! Why do you get to finish it?" He heard Blink ask in a playful tone.
"Because, I just do!" Race said in annoyance.
"You're lucky I love you." Blink said as the machine beeped.
"Hey you two. Where are you? You two were supposed to be here an hour ago. I swear if you two are in the bedroom--" The machine cut David off before he could finish.
Race shook his head before sitting down on the couch. He really didn't want to go out. He wanted to wallow. And then when Blink got home he intended on showing him how truly sorry he was. Blink had always been patient when it came to Race. Race had been picking fights more lately and Blink had finally had enough. That's why he had left.
Race turned on the radio hoping to take his mind off of Blink. A song he knew all to well started and he inwardly groaned. 'They just had to go and play Blink's favorite Christmas song didn't they?' Race put his head in his hands as Bono started to sing. Blink had been a U2 fan for years. So it would make sense that his favorite Christmas song would be Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). The lyrics hit Race like a slap in the face. They were depressing yet bittersweet at the same time.
He heard someone open the front door and he looked around the corner hoping to see Blink. He groaned when he saw the tall dark haired man in the hall. 'It figures David would send him.' Race thought bitterly. The person walked into the room and stared down at Race.
"You plan on coming tonight?"
"I'd rather be alone Cowboy."
"What did you do?"
"We had a fight. I finally pushed him too far."
"Then call him and apologize."
"He wouldn't want to talk to me."
"He's at my Mush's right now. You know that right?"
Race rolled his eyes. It figured Blink would go over there. They had been best friends for years. Mush had been pulled into almost every argument they had. And Spot would always have to come over and break them up. Mush and Spot had been together almost as long as David and Jack had. Race knew Blink wanted a normal relationship the other two couples had. Why couldn't he just give him what he wanted?
"What are you going to do?"
"I can't go over there."
"Why not?" Jack said rolling his eyes.
"I told you he wouldn't want to talk to me." Race said getting agitated.
"How do you know?" Someone said from behind them.
Race turned in his seat to see Blink standing in the doorway. Jack left without saying a word. Blink walked into the room and sat across from Race. He smiled when he heard the last chords of the song. Race could never understand why Blink always came back. He knew Blink could do better. And yet he stayed. Race stared at him trying to find the right thing to say. He could say sorry like he always did. But he had a feeling that wouldn't work this time.
"You're an ass, you know that right?" Blink asked breaking the silence.
"I know." Race said just above a whisper.
"But I love you anyway. I don't know why but I do." Blink said with a sigh.
"I love you too."
"You do? Well you have a messed up way of showing it." Blink said giving him a cold stare.
"What can I do to make it up to you?" Race asked pleading.
"Stay home with me tonight."
"I can do that."
"And learn to hold your tongue." Blink said pointing at him.
"I can do that too." Race said with a laugh.
"Okay then." Blink said rising from his chair.
He walked over to the couch and leaned over Race. Race pulled him to him and brushed his lips against Blinks. Blink situated in Race's lap as the kiss deepened. Race grabbed handfuls of Blinks hair pulling gently. His moan was cut off as Blink nipped at his bottom lip. The phone rang making Race pull away.
"You are not answering that." Blink said staying where he was.
"Yes sir." He said pulling Blink back down.
"Hey you guys it's me. Just wanted to see how you were doing. Since you guys aren't answering the phone I guess you've made up. Or one of you has killed the other one. If that's the case I'll be your alibi. Merry Christmas you guys." Mush said before hanging up.
Blink reached for the phone and turned it on without breaking the kiss. The dial tone could be heard as they both made their way to the bedroom. They were going to have a night without any distractions. That was the best way to spend Christmas.
